I felt that I was not appreciated as a football player. If they want to attract women, they should do it differently.


They have five or six different awards in men`s football, while women have only one.


If they`re aiming for equality, it`s worth giving the same awards to both men`s and women`s football, ` the Arsenal and Netherlands women`s team striker said on the BBC`s Behind the Goals podcast.


Midema also revealed that her teammate Beth Mead, who finished second in the 2022 Women`s Rankings, was named the guest of the ceremony.


The next morning [after the ceremony] I saw that the second-ranked player, who might have been the first, was named my guest. Obviously, this would never have happened if [Lionel] Messi and Neymar had come together.


We treated it with humor, but it shows that a lot needs to be improved and that everything needs to be organized much better, " said Midema.
